So...the Loopy Knitter tagged me in a meme the other day and named me in a list of people who make help make her day. Thanks so much for thinking of me! One of these days we really do need to meet!*
Between Loopy's award and Valentine's Day, this week seems like a great time to acknowledge just a few of the great people, blogs and things that help make my day.
Today, let's talk about a few of the great knitters who've made my day in person:
Trish Blogless, Trish and her mum are the reason I'm here. Trish runs my LYS (a knit shop disguised as a sewing store; believe me, it's the real deal) and her mum taught the long ago sweater class where I learned to knit cables and really, really push my limits. I pushed Liz's too, I'm sure; I know it seemed like I was never, ever going to get it! Trish taught me how to knit socks (thank you!) and has become a great friend and my number one enabler.
Crafty Canadian One of my best friends, she shares her knitting and life with people in a way that re-defines generosity.
MissMe We met at knitting group a few years ago, back when I really sucked and it seemed like I was never going to 'get it.' And then I did! She's been there to see it all!
Byrne Somewhere along the line, Byrne joined the knitting group. We've had a lot of laughs, some hot chocolate and have enabled each other a bit...especially when the Briggs & Little sale comes around.
Steph One of the first on-line knitters I met in person, and one of the first to comment on my blog, Steph is one of the nicest people I've ever met. I always look forward to her posts and a chance to catch up in person.
Frozen Extremities We started out with emails about Grey's Anatomy and I was thrilled to meet and knit with her at Tangled Skeins in November. L is LOVELY and even more fun and fabulous in person than I expected. And she's got the best smile!
Moe We met in November too and she's lovely too. Smart, funny and full of energy. And she's been posting again! Woo!
Alison Funny story. Alison was at TS, too, and we had only a minute to chat before she left. Amazingly, it turns out that we have several real-life people in common! She's a book lover too and I love reading about her adventures with House Man and The Boy.
NinjaKnitter Fun, sweet and a great knitter, we met at TS too and it was great to knit with her in person! This woman is a multi-talented mum and I love everything she posts. Knitting, diaper covers, family stories...love it!
Cynthia I had the privilege of spending a couple of days with Cindy and family this summer. I still can't find the words to describe how much fun I had during our visit, what a special people she, Ed and Nick are...and what an important friend she has become.
Kelli Ann We found each other back when my blog was very young and she is one of the sweetest people alive. We met in Montreal two summers ago and had a fabulous afternoon together. She has shared bits and pieces of her life with me through comments, email and postcards and it is an honour to know her.
Nadine Our mutual love of London-Wul brought us together last year, we started commenting back and forth and next thing you know we're meeting in Montreal. CC and her hubby, Nadine and I explored the Musee des Beaux Arts (the Emily Carr exhibit specifically) and had an amazing lunch together. 'Charming' and 'fabulous' don't even begin to describe this very special person.
Heidi I visited London-Wul during an open house way back when I really didn't know anything about knitting. I knit but only in a very rudimentary way. I was amazed by all of the beautiful yarn and colour and I think I started to see knitting in a bigger way that day. I look forward to every visit to her shop. I try to visit whenever I'm home and Christmas wouldn't be the same without her!
Very Honourable Mentions:
Meegie! We've missed each other in person a few times, unfortunately, but she's definitely one of my favourite knitting buddies. Scrabulous wouldn't be the same without her and who would I be without someone to share Mr Wooka with? I mean, come on!
Rebecca I look forward to the day that I finally get to meet this Larocque star! We've spent many late nights on MSN together, conspiring about knitting and ruminating about lots of Big Issues (like boys, TV, books, music). Rebecca is a superstar!
Christy Swappers by chance, friends by choice! Christy is a great friend that I love chatting about knitting, writing and the blogosphere with. One of these days I'll really go south and we'll get to do so in person. She is doing something wonderful over at The House That Yarn Built. Check it out and please consider contributing if you can.
OK my ducks! Back with more love the second part of Loopy's tag in a day or two.
* We live in the same city but keep missing each at one of the local knitting groups. Maybe this month!
