Haven't You Always Wanted a Monkey?

Actually, no. I haven't always wanted a monkey. But I want one pretty bad at the moment.

While I realize that Monkeys are not exactly fiddly, I have to say that I am OVER these socks. I'm in the homestretch, somewhere between the gusset and the toe on the second sock and I just don't give a crap anymore. I mean, I do but I don't. I'm so close to having a pair. I WANT a pair. They're squooshy and delicious and beautiful...But I just can't seem to get there.

Originally, my big plan was to have them done by January 31. In fact, my even bigger plan for the year is a pair of socks each month. Although I finished my green socks last month (and, in fact, knit 99% of the second sock in January before knitting the first 1.5 Monkeys by Jan 31), and I've been telling other people that I think I should call January a success because I knit an un-matched pair of socks...I still feel like I blew it right out of the gate. Silly, I know. There are no rules! These are my own goals for pete's sake! Re-assess, move on silly girl!

So I'm working on these suckers and thinking about the next pair (oh FRIENDS! I bought lots of beautiful yarn on my trip 'south'! I'll show you soon) and, well...there's another reason they're not doing it for me. I wanted to to knit a pair of socks for my beau in time for Valentines Day. I've got the yarn and the pattern but everything is up in the air because the Monkeys aren't finished and I haven't got my 2.25 mm circs yet. Which is fine. It'll all happen in due course...and maybe my first monkey will have its mate in time for my next trip south (Friday).

Off to bed. Thanks for all of your super comments on my last post, btw. It's so nice to know you're all out there! I'll be back with another post and some other goodies in a day or two.

J....suck it up and get the bloody sock finished (I only say this because I love you)! You have to start doing 2 socks at the same time, then they will both get finished at once...seriously they rock. I say finish the socks - if you are a little late for the B's socks I don't think he will mind....really!

I've been crucified for this at KOL, but...I don't like knitting socks. I like handknit socks, but don't love the process, its ok, but take so long. Then, there's the other one.

Go Monkey, choose Monkey.

(I knit one pair and decided that was enough.)

2 socks equals a pair. so what if they don't match? congrats - that means only another 22 socks to knit for the year!
i love wearing my monkeys. they just make me happy. and any guy that is worth having will understand if his socks are a bit late... : )
p.s. the 20th is good - you're pencilled in.

It's a funny thing, knitting socks. There's this momentum that holds up ... until the last inch or two. But muscle through it - you can! And then you'll have the lovely reward of a pair of Monkeys (I love 'em).

But if I had a million dollars, I'd buy your love. :)

You can do it! I know you can.

I made a pair of monkeys. I think of them as alligators rather than monkeys. They kinda go all ridgy when you wear them (is that a word? ridgy? ridgelike? corrugated maybe? whatever, where the line between the knits and purls is) like the ridges on an alligator's back. I have to be honest and say they're not my favourite socks, to make or wear.

That pair of socks a month idea always seems like such a great goal when I am once again washing my measly 4 pairs of handknit socks but then with all of my getting distracted and working on a million other things it takes me 6 months to finish a pair... how is it that happens -- I am trying for 6 pairs this year -- we'll see. They are pretty -- so just do it!

Oh, you're so close to being finished! They're beautiful too! What yarn is that? I can't wait to see the new yarn from your trip.
