Operation Knit

As mentioned last week, I'm making a few hats for a group that's collecting warm things for area homeless. I made plans for three hats and promised myself that I would finish them before knitting anything for myself or making any real strides toward Christmas knitting. The first two hats -- grey and blue -- went quickly. Grey in a day, blue in just a couple...and then there was cranberry.

Although the colours seem similar in these photos,
the grey is very grey, and the blue is much more denim.

Cranberry and I went everywhere together. To work, to visit with friends, even to a performance of Messiah. I did everything I could to infuse the thing with happy thoughts and good ideas. And yet it continued to piss me off. The yarn was a little ravel-y (maybe that's why it was marked down) and kept catching on the tiniest bit of velcro in my everyday purse. I was keen on the pattern -- another one of my own -- with its 2 x 1 + snaking cables + 1 x 2 ribbing. The stars were aligned, but distraction and destruction were everywhere.

Finally, tonight, while talking on the phone to my sister and to Cynthia, I wrapped up the ribbing, did my decreases and sealed the deal. Cranberry -- fini!
